Applied Materials Germany
The largest of our European operations, Applied Materials Germany serves customers throughout the country and contiguous areas from facilities in four key regions. Operations here entail research and development, engineering, manufacturing, and sales and service of sophisticated semiconductor, display and vacuum coating systems.
Our deep portfolio of advanced technologies and our diverse, high-performing teams are helping make possible the innovations that push the boundaries of science, technology and engineering, solve customers’ challenges, and transform ideas into realities.
Our Focus
Diverse Operations and Technologies
Alzenau and Darmstadt areas are production centers for very large area deposition systems, primarily used for displays—from small mobile devices to ultra-large and even flexible touch screen displays with very high 4K resolution. Our roll-to-roll vacuum coating systems for foils and flexible substrates enable coatings for a wide range of applications, from architectural uses to packaging solutions. In Munich, two Applied sites research, develop and manufacture high vacuum electron beam columns. These are then shipped to Applied’s semiconductor metrology and inspection operations in Israel; and to our display and test equipment manufacturing sites in Taiwan, for integration in Applied’s advanced device production systems. The technology we develop in Munich can detect particles as small as 1nm in size on a 300mm silicon wafer. Translated into the real world, this is the equivalent of finding a single grain of sand within a football stadium!
Our Dresden facility is focused on sales support, system installation, maintenance, software and other services for Applied Materials semiconductor production equipment at major customers in Central Europe. These include some of the world’s premier device manufacturers who are engaged in design and production of microchips for IoT, communication, automotive, power and sensor applications—currently the fastest growing segment of the semiconductor device industry.
